Gaza peace talks enter third day in Egypt as key US and regional mediators join

On Wed, Oct 8, 2025, Israel and Hamas continued peace talks in Egypt concerning the implementation of the United States’ proposed plan to end the conflict in Gaza.
Participation of Senior Officials
The negotiations included senior officials from the United States, Israel, and other mediating countries, indicating a focus on addressing key issues of the American proposal. Notable participants were US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and Turkey’s intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin.
Negotiation Details
According to Hamas official Taher al-Nounou, both parties have exchanged lists of prisoners and hostages to be released upon reaching an agreement. While there is optimism for a resolution, the detailed implementation of the peace plan remains under discussion.
Challenges in Implementation
Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari emphasized the need for practical solutions for the swift execution of agreements. Key issues include the disarmament of Hamas, withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, and governance of the territory post-conflict.
Al-Ansari reiterated that the Palestinian people’s future must be determined by themselves.
Current Situation in Gaza
Over the past two years, Israeli military actions in Gaza have resulted in the deaths of more than 67,000 Palestinians, as reported by Gaza’s Health Ministry.
