The Rafah border post serves as the sole crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip, functioning as a key access point to the external world. The geopolitical constraints surrounding Gaza have been highlighted by the blockade imposed by Israel in 2007, which includes air, land, and sea restrictions.

The closure of the Rafah crossing has had significant economic implications for Gaza, affecting its economy and contributing to regional tensions. Despite a ceasefire brokered by the United States, Israel has indicated potential continued closure of the crossing, citing delays in the return of its captives’ remains as a reason.
