Conflict Update: Sudan
RSF Captures Sudanese Army Headquarters in El Fasher
On Sun, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced the capture of the Sudanese armed forces’ headquarters in El Fasher, located in the Darfur region. The Sudanese army has not yet commented on this development. El Fasher has been under RSF siege for 18 months, affecting approximately 300,000 residents.
The confirmation of this capture would signify a significant shift in the ongoing conflict in Sudan. The strategic loss of El Fasher would represent a critical setback for the Sudanese army in the Darfur region, a known RSF stronghold. Currently, the RSF controls the Darfur and Kordofan regions, while the Sudanese armed forces maintain control over most of the southeastern regions of the country and the Nile River area.
