Summit on Gaza’s Future Held in Sharm el-Sheikh

On Mon, Oct 13, 2025, United States President Donald Trump, alongside Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi, co-chaired a global summit in Sharm el-Sheikh focused on the future of Gaza. The summit was attended by leaders from nearly three dozen countries, aiming to advance peace efforts in the Middle East.

Notably absent was Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who declined the invitation due to a Jewish holiday.

Ceasefire Agreement and Diplomatic Engagements

The meeting coincided with the exchange of hostages and prisoners between Israel and Hamas, facilitated by a United States-brokered ceasefire agreement. President Trump, along with President el-Sissi, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani signed a document intended to lay the groundwork for Gaza’s future.

El-Sissi emphasized the importance of peace as a strategic choice, rooted in justice and equality, while Trump highlighted the opportunity for regional harmony despite ongoing uncertainties in the Palestinian enclave.

Trump’s Address in Jerusalem

During his Middle East tour, President Trump addressed the Israeli parliament in Jerusalem, declaring the end of Israel’s war on Gaza and calling for peace. He urged the need for translating military victories into lasting peace and prosperity in the region.

Trump also committed to aiding in the reconstruction of Gaza, encouraging Palestinians to eschew violence and focus on development.

Casualties and International Reports

According to Gaza’s health ministry, over 67,000 Palestinians have been killed due to Israeli military operations over the past two years. A United Nations report released in September accused Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, though these claims have been denied by Israel.
