Significant Flood Damage in Nador Province Due to Heavy Rainfall

This past weekend, heavy rainfall resulted in substantial flood damage in the Moroccan province of Nador. The northeastern coastal city experienced 66 millimeters of rain within 24 hours, leading to streets, homes, and vehicles being submerged.

The flooding occurred as rainwater accumulated in dry valleys and creeks, causing overflow. Local residents reported that three wadis, Wad Imouadan, Wad Trougout, and Wad Bou-brahm, contributed to the water overflowing in the area.

Although no fatalities were reported, the flooding caused damage to several roads and led to the suspension of classes in schools.

The Minister of Equipment and Water emphasized the urgency of addressing flood risks, particularly in light of climate change. These remarks were made during the presentation of a new study on flood risk prevention plans for the Bouregreg basin.
