Address to Parliament by His Majesty King Mohammed VI

On Fri, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, accompanied by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan and Prince Moulay Rachid, addressed the Moroccan Parliament to commence the final legislative year. During his address, he urged lawmakers to act with seriousness and responsibility, emphasizing the need to complete pending legislation and advance national projects.

Morocco’s New Development Model

The King highlighted Morocco’s new development model, which focuses on territorial equity, social justice, and inclusive growth. He called for targeted support for fragile regions, including mountains and oases, and promoted integrated programs for rural development. The King underscored the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders, including MPs, political parties, local officials, and the media, to effectively communicate policies and protect citizens’ rights.

Public Concerns and Protests

The address followed recent protests led by youth across cities such as Rabat, Casablanca, and Tangier. Demonstrators expressed dissatisfaction with corruption and concerns over the underfunding of health and education systems. Critics have pointed out that resources are being allocated to infrastructure for the 2030 World Cup, while essential public services remain underfunded.

Protest organizers had temporarily halted demonstrations before the King’s address, anticipating a response to their demands. The public now awaits to see if this marks a significant change or merely rhetorical commitments.
