Ethiopia’s Coffee Export Growth

Ethiopia’s coffee industry commenced the fiscal year with the exportation of 80,000 metric tonnes of coffee within the first two months, generating approximately $546 million in revenue.

In the previous fiscal year, Ethiopia exported 470,000 tonnes of coffee, which amounted to $2.2 billion.

Supply Chain Reforms

The Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority attributes the increase in exports to supply chain reforms, which have enabled producers to sell directly to international buyers.

Infrastructure Improvements

Enhancements in infrastructure, including the establishment of new washing and grading centers, have contributed to improved quality. Additionally, government inspection procedures have been decentralized, bringing them closer to coffee farms.

Future Goals

Ethiopia aims to increase its coffee exports to 600,000 tonnes annually, with a target revenue of $3 billion.
