11 South African men allegedly tricked into fighting in Ukraine return

Return of South African Nationals from Ukraine

Eleven South African nationals, reportedly recruited to fight for Russian forces in Ukraine, returned to South Africa on Wednesday. They had been in Ukraine's Donbas region since November. The group, which includes one individual in a wheelchair, arrived in Durban.

Allegations have emerged that the individuals were sent to Russia under the pretext of "security guard training" by the opposition MK Party, associated with former president Jacob Zuma. MK Party founder Jabulani Khumalo has requested government action against those responsible for the recruitment. Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, associated with these activities, resigned from her parliamentary position amidst these claims.

According to Ukrainian sources, over 1,780 individuals from 36 African countries have been identified among Russian military ranks. South African President Ramaphosa has stated that investigations into the recruitment process are ongoing.
