A drone attack on Kisangani Bangoka International Airport in northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo has been claimed by the Congo River Alliance (AFC) and M23 rebels. Rebel spokesperson Lawrence Kanyuka confirmed their involvement, stating that the AFC/M23 targeted a military command center at the airport.
Provincial authorities in Tshopo reported that eight kamikaze drones were intercepted and shot down before reaching their target. Local officials attributed the attack to Rwanda and the AFC/M23 rebels.
The Kisangani airport, located approximately 17 km from central Kisangani, has been described by the rebel coalition as the "primary hub" for operations against rebel positions and civilians in areas under their control.
