AFCON 2025 title "cannot be taken away" from Senegal, says FSF

The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) affirmed that the Africa Cup title remains with Senegal, despite the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) decision to revoke the title.

On Wednesday, CAF justified its decision based on events during the Africa Cup of Nations final when Senegalese players temporarily left the field. Although they returned, CAF determined that the action breached tournament regulations, resulting in a forfeiture.

The title was subsequently awarded to Morocco, a decision that has generated significant controversy. The FSF described the ruling as "unfair, unprecedented, and unacceptable."

Support from Senegal's Olympic and Sports Committee

Abdoulaye Fall, the president of the federation, stated, "From a legal standpoint, Senegal cannot lose this match by forfeit, and we cannot take this title away from Senegal."

Fall also mentioned the ongoing detention of Senegalese soccer fans in Morocco, who were arrested and charged with damaging sporting facilities and committing violence during a sporting event. The federation is providing legal support to these fans.

Omar Diagne, secretary general of the Senegalese National Olympic and Sports Committee, offered additional legal support to the football federation. He stated, "The Olympic Committee is at your disposal to provide lawyers knowledgeable in sports law to support your legal team, so we can pursue the case at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) and aim for a favorable ruling."
