Africa Cup of Nations moves to 4-year cycle

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced significant modifications to its tournament schedule, including the establishment of the African Nations League and the transition of the Africa Cup of Nations to a quadrennial event.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe confirmed these changes during a press conference preceding the 2025 Africa Cup, which will be hosted by Morocco. The 2027 Africa Cup, hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, will proceed as planned. However, the subsequent tournament originally scheduled for 2029 will now occur in 2028, with the following edition set for 2032.
Introduction of the African Nations League
The inaugural African Nations League is slated for 2029. This new competition will feature participation from all 54 CAF member countries, divided into four geographical zones. Matches are scheduled for September and October, with the finals to be conducted in November.
