The appeal trial of Claude Muhayimana, an accused Franco-Rwandan involved in the genocide, commenced at the Paris Court of Assize on Tuesday.
In 2021, Muhayimana was convicted of complicity in genocide and crimes against humanity, receiving a 14-year prison sentence. The charges relate to his role as a driver accused of transporting Hutu militiamen to sites where numerous Tutsis were killed.
The 1994 genocide resulted in the deaths of at least 800,000 people, predominantly from the Tutsi community, at the hands of the Hutu militia.
