Belgium Endorses Morocco’s Autonomy Plan for Western Sahara
Belgium has formally endorsed Morocco's autonomy plan as a resolution to the prolonged Western Sahara dispute. This support was solidified through a joint declaration signed in Brussels on Thursday, Jul 6, 2023.
Belgium’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maxime Prévot, stated that the plan envisions Western Sahara as part of Morocco's sovereignty and national unity. He described the proposal as the most suitable, serious, credible, and realistic basis for achieving a fair, lasting, and mutually acceptable political solution.
Morocco’s Foreign Minister, Nasser Bourita, welcomed Belgium's decision, recognizing it as an acknowledgment of King Mohammed VI's realistic and legitimate vision.
