Benue Governor Orders Rescue of Kidnapped Medical Students

Governor Hyacinth Alia has instructed security agencies in Benue State to intensify efforts to secure the release of approximately 20 medical students who were kidnapped while in transit.

The students, travelling from the University of Maiduguri in Borno State and the University of Jos in Plateau State, were ambushed and taken away in Benue, according to Vanguard Nigeria.

Benue State lies in Nigeria's Middle Belt, a region that has faced persistent challenges with banditry, kidnapping for ransom and communal violence in recent years. Such incidents often target travellers on major roads connecting northern and central parts of the country.

The governor issued the directive shortly after the abduction was reported. He emphasised the need for coordinated action among the various security outfits operating in the state to locate and free the students without delay.
