Cameroon's Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji, has officially rejected the claims made by opposition candidate Issa Tchiroma Bakary regarding the outcome of the recent presidential election. Atanga Nji has accused Bakary of attempting to disrupt the electoral process.
Atanga Nji emphasized that any unauthorized release of election results would be considered "high treason." He reiterated that only the Constitutional Council is authorized to declare the official election results.
Issa Tchiroma Bakary had announced an early victory on Tuesday following the presidential election held on Thu, Oct 12, 2023. Bakary urged the incumbent, President Paul Biya, to concede. Bakary, who was previously a government spokesperson and minister, resigned from his position last year to pursue a presidential bid. His campaign received significant support from various opposition parties and civic groups.
