Cameroon's authorities have permitted the family of Anicet Ekane, a prominent opposition figure, to retrieve his body from the Yaoundé Central Hospital mortuary. This decision comes nearly three months after his death in military detention, which occurred approximately five weeks following his arrest.
The release of Ekane's remains follows two formal requests submitted by the family's legal representatives. This development enables his widow to proceed with funeral arrangements.
Ekane's body had been under a judicial seal since December 1 of the previous year, as per a directive from the government commissioner at the military court. The family's legal team anticipates obtaining the autopsy report, which has been withheld thus far.

The official results of the election declared the 92-year-old incumbent, Paul Biya, as the winner, securing another seven-year term.
The post-election period was marked by violent protests across various regions of Cameroon. Bakary, who claimed victory in the election and has subsequently left the country, has been a central figure in the ensuing political unrest.
Paul Biya has been in power since 1982, following the resignation of Cameroon's first president, and continues to lead the nation.
