CAR president pledges closer ties with Russia

Presidents Faustin-Archange Touadéra and Vladimir Putin recently convened to discuss enhancing security cooperation. During his visit to Moscow, the Central African Republic's head of state emphasized the need to strengthen strategic partnerships between Bangui and the Kremlin, particularly in the energy sector. This initiative follows ongoing fuel shortages in Bangui, which have been partially alleviated through Russian contributions.

President Touadéra highlighted the opportunity presented by his new seven-year mandate to further cooperation in various domains, including security, economic development, education, and humanitarian efforts. He stated, "This new 7-year mandate gives us the opportunity to strengthen our cooperation, already in the field of security, but also for the issues you mentioned, including the economy and other aspects: education, humanitarian issues and others."

Since 2018, the Central African Republic has developed closer ties with Russia, receiving support in security and economic matters. For Moscow, the relationship with Bangui represents a strategic position in Central Africa. This visit marks President Touadéra's first trip to Russia following his re-election at the end of 2025.
