Election Campaign Initiation in the Central African Republic

Election campaigning has commenced in the Central African Republic for the presidential election scheduled on Sun, Dec 28, 2025.

President Faustin-Archange Touadéra began his campaign on Sat, Dec 13, 2025, at Bangui’s Omnisports Stadium. He addressed a large gathering of supporters. Prior to this, he launched his re-election bid in Sibut. The ruling United Hearts Movement (MCU) is aiming for a strong voter turnout to secure a first-round victory. Igor Tola Kogadou, a candidate for the National Assembly from MCU, emphasized the significant mobilization in support of the president.

Touadéra is campaigning for a second term, focusing on his record of promoting stability and peace. His supporters highlight these achievements as pivotal reasons for endorsing his candidacy.

Opposition presidential candidate Anicet-Georges Dologuélé has introduced a platform focusing on 25 social pillars aimed at strengthening the state and reviving the economy. Key aspects of his program include establishing a robust state, fostering economic recovery, and creating opportunities. Dologuélé received support from Serge Bokassa, a former minister, marking a notable shift from the ruling party. He criticized the current authorities for undermining democratic institutions and manipulating nationality issues.

The campaign period, lasting two weeks, is occurring in a tense environment, as noted by the United Nations, with concerns about security and political polarization. Despite these challenges, all major candidates, including President Touadéra, have urged for a peaceful campaign and encouraged voters to express their preferences through the electoral process.
