On Fri, seven Chadian soldiers were killed in a confrontation at the Sudanese border. The Chadian government attributes the incident to an incursion by armed fighters from Sudan, identified as elements of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The RSF is currently engaged in an ongoing conflict with the Sudanese army.
The incursion occurred on Thu, when armed fighters crossed into Chad and were confronted by Chadian troops. The clash took place near the border city of Tine. As a result, the Chadian government has issued a warning to all parties involved in the Sudanese conflict, urging them to cease violations of Chadian territory.
Since April 2023, the conflict between the RSF and the Sudanese army has resulted in significant casualties and displacement. According to the United Nations, around 12 million people have been displaced, with approximately one million seeking refuge in Chad. Previous incidents include a drone attack by the RSF on December 26, which killed two Chadian soldiers.
