On Tue, Oct 10, 2023, clashes occurred between the Chadian army and the MPRD rebel group in Korbol, located in the Moyen-Chari region. The conflict resulted in the loss of three soldiers and left ten others wounded, according to an official statement from the army.

The army had issued a surrender ultimatum to the MPRD on the preceding Sunday.

Mahamat Deby, the current transitional president, assumed power in 2021 following the death of his father, Idriss Deby, at the hands of rebels. Mahamat Deby subsequently secured the presidency in the 2024 elections, which faced significant boycotts from opposition groups.
