Dr. Tom Erdimi, who had held the position of Chad's higher education minister since 2022, has announced his resignation. This development was confirmed in an official statement signed on Thu, Mar 5, 2026, by Prime Minister Allah-Maye Halina.
The statement clarified that Dr. Erdimi's departure was voluntary, and the Prime Minister acknowledged his contributions to the central African country.
Dr. Erdimi is the second minister to resign since President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno assumed office in April 2021. Initially, a former rebel leader and opponent of the late President Idriss Déby, Dr. Erdimi was appointed as minister in October 2022, following the Doha Agreements, which were established between the transitional government and various political and rebel factions.

During his tenure, Dr. Erdimi implemented significant reforms, including the digitization of admission processes at the University of N’Djamena, Chad's leading university, and the establishment of new universities and research institutes.
