Chad is preparing to deploy approximately 800 police officers to Haiti as part of an international initiative to address extensive gang activity in the Caribbean nation. This deployment is part of the United Nations-backed Gang Suppression Force (GSF), which follows a smaller mission led by Kenya that commenced operations in 2024.
Participating Countries and Operations
The multinational force includes personnel from Jamaica, Guatemala, and El Salvador. The GSF collaborates with Haitian security forces and is authorized to arrest and detain individuals suspected of gang affiliation.
The force aims to achieve its full operational capacity of over 5,500 police and military personnel by October. However, the deployment of new troops has experienced delays.
