The death toll from the recent mass shooting at a pub in Bekkersdal, South Africa, has increased to 10 as of Tue, Dec 23, 2025. Law enforcement agencies have identified two individuals as potential suspects in connection with the incident.
The attack occurred early Sunday morning, involving approximately 12 unidentified assailants who arrived in two vehicles and opened fire on patrons at the pub. The assault resulted in the deaths of three women and seven men, while nine other individuals remain hospitalized.
According to police reports, the attackers continued discharging their firearms indiscriminately as they departed the scene.

Maj. Gen. Fred Kekana, the acting provincial commissioner of Gauteng, confirmed that community reports have led to the identification of two potential suspects. In addition, a spokesperson for the Gauteng police stated that the tavern owner will face charges of fraud and operating an unlicensed liquor establishment. Authorities have seized all alcoholic beverages found on the premises.
This incident marks the second mass shooting within a three-week span in township pubs in South Africa. Earlier in December, a similar attack at an unlicensed bar near Pretoria resulted in the deaths of at least 12 people, including three children. A suspect, aged 32, was apprehended on Monday in relation to the previous incident.
