A security incident involving drones occurred at the strategic airport in Kisangani, northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo, over the weekend, as reported by the provincial government on Mon, Oct 9, 2023.
Explosive drones carrying munitions targeted the airport between Sat, Oct 7, 2023, and Sun, Oct 8, 2023. The Tshopo provincial government noted that eight drones were neutralized before reaching their intended target. No casualties were reported.
Following the incident, security around the airport was reinforced. The local airline, CAA, which operates domestic flights to Kisangani several times a week, did not announce any cancellations.
