A recent operation by the Congolese armed forces has led to the discovery of a hidden weapons cache at a mining site in Noro, Ituri province. The cache includes grenades, AK-47 rifles, and several hundred boxes of ammunition.
The cache was uncovered following a tip-off from the local population. It is suspected to be linked to the Convention for the Popular Revolution (CPR), a militia associated with Thomas Lubanga, who has been convicted of war crimes by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The CPR, established last year, operates primarily in northeastern Congo. Despite recent setbacks and defections, the militia is believed to be actively recruiting from the local population.
