Allegations have emerged involving the M23 group concerning the theft of substantial quantities of gold from a mining area under its control. Twangiza, a mining enterprise in South Kivu, reported that over 500 kilograms of gold were taken from its concession in the province.
The company claimed that Rwandan geologists were employed by the group to locate the mineral resources. The estimated value of the stolen gold exceeds $70 million.
However, the coordinator of M23, Corneille Nangaa, refuted these allegations. He stated that the mine in question was managed by artisanal workers rather than an industrial operator. Additionally, he accused government forces of attacking the mine, attributing ceasefire breaches to Kinshasa.
