Health Update: Ebola Outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Health officials in the Democratic Republic of Congo have observed signs of decline in the Ebola outbreak in Kasai Province. The World Health Organization has reported 64 confirmed and probable infections , including 42 deaths , indicating a fatality rate of approximately 66 percent .

In the past week, there have been seven new cases and seven deaths recorded across three health areas. However, experts note a slowdown in the transmission rate due to enhanced surveillance, case management, and infection control measures.

The outbreak is localized , impacting six out of 21 health zones in Bulape. Notably, five health workers have been infected, with three fatalities. Vaccination efforts are underway, with over 4,100 individuals immunized and additional doses available in reserve.

Authorities caution that the presence of family clusters and delays in isolation continue to pose risks. However, the overall spread appears to be stabilizing.
