According to a statement released on Wednesday, ECOWAS announced that aviation charges related to passengers and security will be reduced by 25% starting next year.
These measures originate from a decision made by the Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS during their summit in Abuja in December 2024.

ECOWAS stated that the reform addresses longstanding concerns regarding the high cost of flying in West Africa. It has been noted that these costs have limited tourism, trade, and the free movement of people and goods.
The community anticipates that this change will result in lower airfares, increased passenger traffic, stronger regional airlines, and enhanced regional integration.
ECOWAS will oversee the implementation of these measures in all member states through a dedicated monitoring mechanism.
