On Wed, the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, met with the Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, in Cairo. The meeting resulted in the signing of multiple partnership agreements and demonstrated a unified stance on regional issues involving Iran, Sudan, and Gaza.
After nearly a decade of strained relations following the removal of Mohamed Morsi in 2013, ties between Cairo and Ankara have improved. Since 2023, the leaders have met several times, exchanged visits, normalized diplomatic relations, and signed over a dozen cooperation agreements, including those related to defense.
During a joint news conference, Sisi announced that bilateral trade has reached approximately $9 billion, establishing Egypt as Turkey's leading trade partner in Africa. Ministers from both nations signed 18 agreements covering sectors such as defense, tourism, health, and agriculture.
Egypt and Turkey are part of the mediating bloc for the current Gaza truce, supporting the Sudanese army in its conflict with paramilitary forces and adopting increasingly aligned positions on regional matters.

Concerning Sudan, Sisi stated both sides aim for a humanitarian truce leading to a ceasefire and a comprehensive political path. He advocated for diplomatic solutions to prevent regional escalation, particularly concerning the Iranian nuclear issue.
President Erdogan highlighted the necessity of diplomacy, warning against foreign interference, which poses significant risks to the region. He reiterated that dialogue remains the most suitable approach for resolving disputes with Iran.
Both leaders expressed their support for Somalia's territorial integrity amid increased regional tensions. They have backed the Somali government and criticized Israel's recognition of the breakaway region of Somaliland, forming a regional security alliance that includes Saudi Arabia.
Turkey agreed to supply Egypt with advanced drones in 2024, with plans for joint manufacturing of the drones by both countries.
