Equatorial Guinea has officially changed its capital city from Malabo to Ciudad de La Paz through a presidential decree.
The decision to relocate the capital, previously situated on Bioko Island, has been under consideration for nearly two decades. The country's president, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, cited strategic reasons for this move.
The urban expansion of Malabo was a significant factor in the decision to move the capital to the mainland, specifically to the heart of the Equatorial forest.
