Burkina Faso's former transitional president, Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, has been arrested in Togo and subsequently expelled, according to local sources.
Damiba, who had previously ousted Burkinabe President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré in a 2022 coup, was later overthrown by military leader Ibrahim Traoré, who remains in power.

Since his exile in Togo, Damiba has faced accusations of involvement in various coup and assassination plots. Authorities in Ouagadougou have reported the foiling of an attempted assassination of Traoré, which was allegedly planned for Tue, Jan 3, 2023. Several alleged conspirators have appeared on state television, claiming to have acted under Damiba's directives.
Security officials have stated that Damiba had intended to execute a series of targeted assassinations of both civilian and military figures, with Traoré as the initial target.
