Nomination of Macky Sall for UN Secretary-General Role
Macky Sall, former President of Senegal (2012-2024), has been officially nominated by Burundi as a candidate for the position of United Nations Secretary-General.
The election for the new Secretary-General, replacing Antonio Guterres, is scheduled for this year. The elected candidate will serve a five-year term commencing on January 1, 2027.
Regional Rotation and Current Candidates
The role traditionally rotates among world regions. Despite the expectation that Eastern Europe would follow Guterres, the next region on the list is Latin America.
