President Brice Oligui Nguema's Democratic Union of Builders (UDB) successfully obtained a majority following the second round of the parliamentary elections held on Sat, Aug 26, 2023.
The UDB is projected to secure 55 seats in the 145-seat national assembly. The run-off vote was necessary in 77 constituencies where no candidate achieved an absolute majority, as reported by the national electoral body.
The primary competition was between the UDB and the Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG), the latter being the party of former president Ali Bongo, which secured three seats in the first round.
