Benin's population participated in the National Assembly elections on Wed, Jan 11, 2023. The results were announced on Saturday evening, indicating that government-affiliated parties secured all seats, while the main opposition party did not meet the required 20% district vote threshold.
The election results revealed that the presidential bloc, comprising the Union for Progress and Renewal (UP-R) and the Republican Bloc (BR), obtained all 109 parliamentary seats, with UP-R and BR acquiring 60 and 49 seats, respectively.
The Democrats, the main opposition party, were allowed to participate in these parliamentary elections but failed to achieve the necessary 20% benchmark in district votes to secure parliamentary representation.
