A security incident occurred on Thu, Oct 5, 2023, in Zamfara state's Tsafe area, resulting in the deaths of eight individuals. The attack took place on the Gusau-Funtua road and involved gunmen ambushing security personnel. Among the deceased are five police officers and three members of a local paramilitary group collaborating with the police. This information was confirmed by the state's governor, Dauda Lawal.

Such incidents are prevalent in Nigeria's northern regions, where conflicts between local herders and farmers frequently occur over land and water resources. The confrontations often arise from allegations that herders, predominantly of Fulani origin, are grazing livestock on farmland, causing damage to crops.

Recently, there has been a rise in attacks by armed groups in northwest Nigeria, particularly in Zamfara state. These groups are known for kidnapping residents to demand ransom.

Nigeria is also addressing security challenges related to Boko Haram insurgents in the northeast. According to the United Nations, this conflict has resulted in approximately 35,000 civilian deaths and displaced over 2 million individuals.
