Somalia's ambassador to the United Nations, Abukar Dahir Osman, addressed Israel's recognition of Somaliland on Fri, Dec 26, 2025. He described the decision as a strategic move by Israel to divert attention from its military activities in Gaza and the West Bank.
According to Osman, the recognition of a portion of Somalia was a deliberate effort by Israel to shift global focus. He further stated that reports suggesting Somaliland agreed to accept Palestinians from Gaza are unacceptable.
He remarked, "What Israel’s goal is, I think it’s not even secret. They want to export the Palestinian from Gaza to any country that accepts."
