The people of Côte d’Ivoire will head to the polls to elect 255 members of the National Assembly. This legislative election follows the recent re-election of President Alassane Ouattara, who won 90 percent of the vote, a result currently contested by the opposition due to the exclusion of certain figures based on court decisions.
Tensions from the presidential election have extended into the parliamentary race. Notably, the African Peoples’ Party, associated with former president Laurent Gbagbo, has chosen to boycott the election.
There are over 2,700 candidates participating, including nearly 800 independents. President Ouattara’s party, RHDP, is expected to secure a significant majority, as it is the only party contesting in all constituencies and already holds a dominant position in the current assembly.

An estimated 8.7 million voters are anticipated to participate in the election.
