The defendants are accused of participating in or assisting the attack that resulted in the deaths of 14 soldiers at Kafolo, located on the border with Burkina Faso.
The group includes the alleged leader of the unit responsible for the assault and the father of an alleged perpetrator accused of aiding his son's escape.
Authorities aim to gain insights into the activities and recruitment networks of jihadist groups in the region through this trial.
