JUST IN: Ethereum Foundation Moves Entire $650M+ Treasury to Safe Multisig
## Ethereum Foundation Treasury Migration to Safe Multisig
Ethereum Foundation Treasury Migration to Safe Multisig
The Ethereum Foundation has successfully migrated its entire treasury, comprising over 160,000 ETH valued at approximately $650 million, to Safe{Wallet}. This transition follows extensive testing within the decentralized finance (DeFi) sector. Safe{Wallet}, managed by Safe Labs, a subsidiary of the Safe Foundation, is widely recognized as a reliable multisig wallet solution within the cryptocurrency industry, securing substantial assets for diverse entities including institutions, decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), and projects.
This migration aligns with the Foundation's June 2025 treasury policy, which outlined a strategy to actively engage with Ethereum's DeFi ecosystem. Since February, the Foundation has been testing Safe{Wallet} through a dedicated DeFi-focused account, utilizing protocols such as Aave, Cowswap, and Morpho. The Foundation tested a 3-of-5 multisig configuration on January 20, 2025, and has now completed the transition, consolidating its ETH holdings into Safe{Wallet}. This strategic move allows the Foundation to participate in DeFi while maintaining high security standards.
The migration coincides with Safe{Wallet} reaching a significant milestone of over 750 million transactions (751,062,286 as of today) and the creation of more than 57.5 million Safes across various blockchain networks. Safe{Wallet} has become a standard for multisig wallets within the cryptocurrency sector, offering security for institutional and DAO treasuries. Prominent users include Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, who has stored over 90% of his personal cryptocurrency holdings in a Safe multisig wallet since at least 2024.
Safe{Wallet} has also gained traction among major institutions. For instance, World Liberty Financial, supported by external interests, has processed transactions exceeding $3.02 billion through Safe{Wallet} smart accounts, further illustrating its institutional adoption.

Ethereum Foundation: $650M+ treasury secured World Liberty Financial: Over $3 billion processed via Safe smart accounts Total assets stored: Over $65 billion Transactions executed: 750 million Supported networks: 300+ Projects built on Safe standard: 200+ Accounts deployed: 57 million
This migration reflects the Ethereum Foundation's commitment to its June 2025 treasury policy, which emphasizes deploying treasury assets into secure, decentralized protocols while maintaining an operational buffer of 2.5 years. The policy aims to enhance financial sustainability and support key Ethereum applications, aligning with principles of security, open-source development, and financial independence.
The migration signifies the Foundation's strategic alignment with the Ethereum ecosystem, utilizing the same infrastructure it supports and contributing to the development of the DeFi landscape.
