On Tue, Oct 3, 2023, two Evolve Gym locations in west London were closed due to the passing of co-founder Sina Ghami, who died in a car accident in Nigeria on Mon, Oct 2, 2023. Ghami was known for his role as the strength and conditioning coach for British boxer Anthony Joshua.
Anthony Joshua, a two-time former world champion and Olympic gold medalist, was involved in the incident and sustained minor injuries. Joshua holds citizenship in both the United Kingdom and Nigeria. Another casualty of the accident was trainer Latif Ayodele, who also lost his life. Both Ghami and Ayodele were significant members of Joshua's team.

The Evolve gyms in Colindale and South Ruislip expressed their condolences by posting statements at their locations, mourning the loss of Ghami and appreciating the community's support.
The accident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at approximately 11:00 AM local time. Initial reports from Nigerian authorities indicate that the vehicle carrying Joshua and his team was speeding and lost control while attempting to overtake, leading to a collision with a stationary truck. Eyewitnesses noted that a tire burst at high speed contributed to the incident.
Following the accident, Matchroom Boxing, Joshua’s promoter, released a statement confirming that Joshua was hospitalized for checks and treatment and would remain under observation.
