Mali's Transitional Government Dismisses Military Personnel

The dismissed officers were associated with a "subversive act" that occurred on August 1, 2025. Major General Daoud Aly Mohammedine, the Minister of Security and Civil Protection, had previously announced that the plot had been "successfully thwarted by specialized services." The government has assured the public that judicial investigations are ongoing to identify any additional accomplices.

The decree also implicates a foreign national, identifying Yann Christian Bernard Vizilier, a French citizen, as having "actively participated in the foiled operation." This development may exacerbate the already strained relations between Mali and France.

This incident is part of a series of military purges under General Goïta's leadership. In May 2024, six army lieutenants were dismissed after being associated with a separatist group known as the Azawad Liberation Front. These repeated dismissals underscore the junta's efforts to maintain unity within the armed forces amid ongoing security and political challenges.
