Discovery of Missing French Citizen in Chad
A French citizen named Paul Ferreri has been found deceased in the northeastern region of Chad, following two days of search operations in the Sahara Desert, as announced by authorities on Friday.
Ferreri was located in the Ennedi region, according to information from the Ministry of Tourism. He had been unaccounted for since departing a tourist camp near the town of Bachikele on Monday. His visit was in connection with the 6th International Festival of Saharan Cultures.
Ferreri, along with another tourist whose identity has not been disclosed, left the camp on Wednesday morning. The second tourist was located after a brief search and reported having turned back and becoming disoriented while attempting to return to the camp.
Ferreri was located in the Ennedi region, according to information from the Ministry of Tourism.
The Ennedi region of Chad is a remote mountainous area within the Sahara Desert, situated near the Sudanese border, and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The festival, conducted in the town of Amdjarass, features artists from various parts of the region and aims to promote traditional Saharan culture.
The French Foreign Ministry has stated that it is closely monitoring the situation and is maintaining regular communication with local authorities. Although the cause of death has not been determined, Chadian officials have confirmed ongoing collaboration with French authorities and will provide additional updates as more information becomes available.
