Over 50 individuals, including nine children, were rescued from an overcrowded boat in the central Mediterranean on Friday evening.
The Italian NGO, Organisation Emergency, conducted its second rescue operation of the day, having earlier assisted 41 migrants at sea. The individuals rescued in the second operation originated from Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau, Biafra, Senegal, South Sudan, Guinea, The Gambia, and Sudan.
Both rescue missions were initiated after the boats were identified in international waters within the Libyan Search and Rescue zone.

The rescued groups are en route to Civitavecchia, Italy, aboard the NGO's Life Support ship. This journey will take several days from the rescue location.
