Nearly 100,000 individuals in northern Mozambique have been displaced recently due to armed groups attacking their villages, resulting in the destruction of homes and civilian casualties.
In Nampula Province, various facilities such as schools and churches, along with open spaces, are currently accommodating newly arrived families. This marks the fourth significant wave of displaced individuals in recent months, exerting pressure on the already vulnerable host communities.
The ongoing conflict, involving fighters associated with the Islamic State, has displaced over 1.3 million people since its inception in Cabo Delgado in 2017. The violence has recently extended into Nampula and Nissa Provinces, impacting areas that previously provided refuge to displaced populations.
