Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the youngest son of Zimbabwe's late former president Robert Mugabe, appeared in a South African court on Monday facing attempted murder charges following an incident at his Johannesburg home. A gardener was shot at the Hyde Park residence last week.
The 29-year-old, along with co-accused Tobias Mugabe Matonhodze, 33, is also charged with defeating the ends of justice and unlawful possession of a firearm. The firearm involved in the incident has not yet been recovered by the police.
The defendants appeared in the Alexandra Magistrates Court and are scheduled to return on Fri, Mar 3, 2023, for a formal bail application. The motive for the incident remains under investigation.
