Mugabe’s lawyer has contested the charges, asserting that the drugs belonged to other passengers in a different vehicle and accusing the police of exaggerating the quantity seized. Mugabe Jr has been remanded in custody as the court reviews his bail application.
Mugabe Jr has previously encountered legal issues. In 2023, he was arrested for allegedly damaging property and spitting at a police officer, resolving the case through an out-of-court settlement.
His late father governed Zimbabwe for nearly four decades before being removed from office in 2017. Relations between the Mugabe family and President Emmerson Mnangagwa deteriorated post-ouster, though Mugabe Jr reconciled with Zanu-PF in 2022 after attending a party rally.
