According to Simon Mugenyi Byabakama, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, a total of 23,049 valid votes have been counted, while 796 ballots have been declared invalid. The election process aims to extend President Museveni's nearly 40-year leadership.
The Electoral Commission reports that the presidential election was conducted in a "generally peaceful" manner, with vote counting completed in numerous regions. The chairperson has urged candidates, their agents, and supporters to remain calm and exercise tolerance as the results are being declared.
