Guatemala has received its first deportation flight from the United States, which included both Guatemalan and foreign nationals, as confirmed by the country's migration authority. This development is a part of the ongoing deportation efforts by the current US administration.
The flight arrived on Fri, bringing three Honduran and 56 Guatemalan nationals, according to Guatemala's IGM migration agency. The Honduran individuals were initially taken to a migration center before being transferred back to their home country.
The Guatemalan government has expressed its willingness to receive citizens from neighboring Central American nations deported by the US. This approach is aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties with the current US administration.
Earlier this year, under President Bernardo Arevalo's administration, Guatemala agreed to increase the number of deportation flights it would receive. This decision followed a visit from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Additionally, Guatemala has indicated readiness to accept some non-citizens deported from the US.

The current administration has made curbing migration a key priority and has sought cooperation from Central American and Caribbean nations in its deportation efforts. However, several Caribbean governments have rejected proposals to accept migrants from third countries.
In June, the US Supreme Court allowed the administration to resume deporting immigrants to countries other than their homeland, even if they claim potential danger there.
