Following the partial reopening of the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt, medical evacuations have begun for a limited number of ill and wounded Palestinians. Despite these efforts, significant challenges remain in rebuilding Gaza's health system, which has suffered extensive damage due to ongoing conflict.
The health system in Gaza faces five major challenges: limited patient evacuations, insufficient medical equipment, medication shortages, destruction of facilities, and a lack of medical personnel. The blockade and recent conflicts have exacerbated these issues, and despite a ceasefire, these challenges persist.
Medication shortages are critical, with a 52% deficit, particularly affecting those with chronic illnesses, which stands at 62%. This shortage has led to deterioration in health conditions and increased fatalities among the 350,000 patients with chronic illnesses in Gaza.
The destruction of healthcare facilities has resulted in no functional hospitals in northern Gaza, forcing patients to travel significant distances for care.

These measures are critical to restoring the health infrastructure and ensuring the availability of essential medical services.
