The recent political instability was sparked by mass protests over power and water shortages, leading to at least 22 fatalities and over 100 injuries, according to United Nations reports. Colonel Randrianirina, during his inauguration ceremony, emphasized the need for drafting a new constitution and electoral laws, with the involvement of military, political representatives, and protest movement leaders.

Randrianirina announced plans to reform the country's governance systems and committed to holding elections within 18 to 24 months. Despite international criticism, he maintained that the transition was constitutionally supported, denying any coup allegations.

Former President Rajoelina has fled Madagascar amid the crisis. The situation marks Madagascar's third military transition since its independence in 1960, following previous coups in 1972 and 2009.

The African Union and the SADC bloc are planning to send fact-finding missions to Madagascar to ensure the restoration of constitutional democracy. The French Foreign Minister has called for the inclusion of civilian voices, particularly the youth, in the transitional process.
